Super cute baby cards

Hi everyone!

It has been a long time. Several things have happened and I have moved cities, and have gone back to cardmaking as I've started to sell some again at work. It is a good motivation for getting back into cards as my other hobbies (photography, crochet) were starting to compete with it!

I thought I should share the baby cards I made the other week that I am absolutely in love with.

I used a smudging tool against a cloud die cut as a mask. It has come out better than I had even imagined and the Mama Elephant set is just perfect for baby cards :)

Hoping to share more cards with you all soon!

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
STAMPS: [Mama Elephant] Up and Away; [Papertrey Ink] Night, Night, Moon
INK: [Papertrey Ink] Summer Sunrise, Orange Zest, Lemon Tart, Berry Sorbet, Hibiscus Burst, Melon Berry; [VersaFine] Onyx Black; [Adirondack] Pitch Black
PAPER: [Papertrey Ink] Soft Stone, Stamper's Select White

Unconventional

So it has been a long long time since I even thought about this blog.

I managed to get my friend into stamping last year and now she is encouraging me to get started on Christmas cards so we had our little "Crafternoon" - as I said to her today, it is 10% gossipping, 10% crafting and 80% staring at your piece of paper trying to figure out what to do!

Here are couple of unconventional Christmas cards from this year's collection.

As my stamping skills get older, I am finding I get more and more lazy to the point that I keep going back to remaking old cards or casing someone else's from Google Images.

Pretty unconventional but I tried to make something that might be possibly more appealing to the Asian counterparts who celebrate New Years more than Christmas.

I eventually bought the City Scene set and they are surprisingly hard to use. I find that I struggle to come up with new ways to use the set. I'm sure I'll eventually find new ways.

Anyway, a quick post this time. I had been very busy earlier this year with a postgrad diploma and now I have bought myself a proper dSLR (about time!) and my time is being split between various hobbies.

PTI 7th Anniversary Journaling Card

Hello everyone!

Yes, I am still alive. Not quite dead, though I haven't blogged anything or made much in over a year.

Things have been rather busy on this side of the world (well, in my little world anyway). A big news on my life would be that I bought a house!!! Long story, but it somehow happened. The house is still in development and settlement hasn't occurred so it technically isn't mine yet. They are well overdue but I think they might be another 2 months or so away.  Exciting but also daunting that I will sooner or later have a mortgage - and I just thought I'd be a bit more free now that I'd paid off the Student Loan too!

Work has been keeping me busy and I've sort of lost a bit of inspiration and motivation to make cards the last little while.

However, I did finally get myself Project Life. I had been meaning to for a long time but it is a rather expensive little thing and I thought I'd bide my time. Having a well paying job certainly helps, but being on night shift for the first time didn't help my self control and I finally caved in around 5am at work. Haha. Not to mention that was followed by clothes shopping on ASOS two weeks later on another set of night shift. Lol.

Anyway, I have been keeping up with PTI releases, but just have been quiet. I see and am thrilled that PTI is releasing things to go with pocket scrapbooking trend. Great (and bad for my wallet) because big 12x12 pages scare me. Anyway, I had done  my own first page with lots of difficulty a couple of weeks ago, so I may as well share and get in a chance to win something ;)

So yes, I cheated. I got the journaling cards from the core kit and added my little touch.

This is my under-used SU! Fox & Friends set. I feel like I've finally put it to good use. Actually looking at this now, I feel that it would also make good background for kids' birthday cards.

And voila! This is my first ever pocket scrapbooking page. It took an awful lot of time and thought before I arrived at this. It appears that I struggle with pocket scrapbooking almost as much as the old-fashioned 12x12 page scrapbooking.

Anyway, things are going to be ridiculously busy for me the next few months now that I've started a postgraduate diploma (only till June!). Perhaps I will go back into that old habit of getting sidetracked and crafting the week before exams ;)

Thanks for coming by!

Happy Hexagons are here!

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd better post today before things get too hectic. I have an exam tomorrow (and I am going to flunk it!) and then moving houses this weekend so won't have much time to post I suspect.

My PTI order finally arrived yesterday and unfortunately I couldn't get my hands off it! I had been eyeing the hexagon and harlequin cover plates for some time now and had to nab them when they were both in stock.

They were definitely fun to play with but require a fair bit of patience as it does take time to stamp and assemble them! But the results are rather striking even when you didn't think through colours. I am aware that Nichole Heady has some formulas or layout to make them look nice with the number of pieces needed for each colour. However, being me, I couldn't be bothered and I just went with random placements which still worked perfectly fine.

So I made two cards yesterday instead of doing some studies (seeing as it won't affect whether I graduate or not, and you all know the temptation when you get your hands on somethine new after 6 months of nothing!).

Now, the hexagons or the colours have nothing to do with Christmas, but I figured I may as well use the new Christmas stamp sets too. Whoever receives these can be baffled at my designs ;)

I used some Royal Velvet here because it's not a colour I use very often and it went with the new ink I got (Royal Velvet, Smokey Shadow and Winter Wisteria).

Next up is a bit more cheery and more fitted to our New Zealand summer Christmas. Still doesn't look anything like a Christmas card, but hey, it's handmade! ;)

So there it is from me. I'd better do some work just to make myself feel better. Why I agreed to take part in the exam I do not know (since I did have a choice whether to sit it or not!!!). Anyway, wish me luck in moving around all my junk to the new house and I am very much looking forward to a new corner desk which will now be set up primarily for crafting purposes (seeing as I won't be getting much homework to do once work starts!).

Thanks for coming around :)

PTI Blog Hop [Oct 2012]

Hello everyone,

I thought I was a little too late to make something for the blog hop, but it looks like it hasn't even started yet! Woohoo for time being so ahead in New Zealand. I very very quickly made something whilst the idea was still floating around my head.

Anyway, this month's blog hop theme was non-traditional Christmas colours...

So I chose the above color scheme for my card. I was going to use another initially, but then decided I needed something a bit brighter. After all, it is Christmas we are talking about.

Basically, all I did was get strips of cardstock of the above colour scheme and glued them on the white card base. Then I overlayed it with an impressed and die cut mat with a bit of foam tape. Just to go along with the colours, I stamped the remainder of the sentiment with multiple colours.

Here's another view... because I feel like it. Haha.

A reasonably CAS card because of all the white spaces but has enough on it I think. I did put a wee holly die cut in the corner for finishing touches.

Thanks for coming by :) Hope you liked my take on the challenge.

OTHER: [PTI] Holly Jolly die collection, Wonderful Words: Holiday die collection, Woodgrain impression plate; [Kaiser Craft] rhinestones

Just a Random Note...

I've no cards to share still. I'll be home for Easter so hopefully something coming out of production line then ;)

I'm glad to see more people coming out to share their views of the latest PTI madness. And I have to say, I'm getting more and more frustrated at the number of green username initiated posts there are on the PTI forum <_< I still reckon the DT should stay out of customer service issues completely. And all those sunshine and rainbows on the forum like there is nothing wrong just make me sick in the stomach.

And just as a side note about the new Card Base-ics die mix ups... can't they just take a deep breath and send the correct one (and tell customers to keep the wrong one)? They should have order records to figure out who needs them without getting swamped with emails (which they can't deal with anyway).

I'm so frustrated with all this *ARGH*

And on a completely different note... HALLELUJAH! WPlus9 is bringing out heavyweight 100lb cardstock!!! I seriously hope they continue it and bring out some new colours + have them available in larger packs later :D Read about it here.

My 2 Cents

This is a post regarding the recent (well, technically not so recent) Papertrey Ink customer service drama. I've kept quiet till now because initially, I thought people were just being immature and I didn't want to be involved, but over the past few months, even I've been bugged with all the things that have happened. Donna's recent post on her blog (go have a read, I actually think it's quite well written) brought my writing muse out today. I just wanted to add in my 2 cents that I didn't really bother to post on the forums.
Many of you will know that just about every card I make involves a PTI product. I'm close to being 100% PTI when it comes to stamping. Largely because PTI is what got me started stamping in the first place, and I have yet to find another company that really suits my style.
When I first started 1.5yrs ago, I quickly fell in love with PTI products. I still do as a matter of fact. They are high quality and versatile. I joined the forum, and was rather impressed at the community we had there. People helped each other out and the Design Team personally answered questions. You don't see such a place online very often these days.
But then it all started to turn to custard with anniversary sets not getting sent out, Karen having trouble with her defective item returns. Then everything followed from there onwards. Now we have a new website, which is a hundred times more difficult to navigate than the old one, let alone launched before it was even ready (what happened to pre-launch testings that we were told about?). Customer service emails getting wiped out on purpose so that they can catch up and re-triage as you are told when to email? People not getting their refunds (oh I've got one to share on this one)? The forum's been turned into a complaints box/CS emergency desk. How is it that you get a faster response and action on the forum? How will you make it up to people who never joined the forum? People have been banned on the forum. People I think that did not deserve the IP ban. The whole madness would have been much better with acceptance, apologies and getting the job done.

I'm leaving out a lot of the details, because there is enough out there, and Donna's post highlights many of them already.

I have to say one of the things that really annoys me is the fact that the design team is now on the customer service case. Don't get me wrong, but I love the DT. They are great bunch of ladies with lots of inspiration. But they are the DT. They should never be more or less. If PTI has CS issues, then they should be hiring more people fit for the job. Why is it that the DT is relaying information from the forum in the first place. Why are people getting answers on the forum and not over CS emails that is dedicated for the job? I can only speculate that the DT was brought back in to add a bit more positive vibe to the forum (when they all suddenly show up on the forum, it's kind of obvious something happened behind the scenes). In truth, I just find it all very superficial. And btw, don't you also think that having the DT on the forums answering CS questions has turned the forum into another CS desk? What's with that?

I will share my one experience with PTI customer service. I'm not exactly a short-fused person, and I wasn't too bothered what happened. I was just happy to get my replacement die and thought it went ok. But looking back now, it was really, crappy service too.

I had a defective die last year. I first emailed CS on 25th Aug with photo evidence, and got a reply the next day. Now, the info had to be relayed to Julie because I am an international. I heard nothing back. I emailed again on 3rd Sept and I got a reply on the 7th Sept that they'll give Julie another nudge to see if there's an update. I still had no information on what I should do with this defective die. Reply from Julie finally on the 8th Sept to send the die back (why can't this have been done on day 1???). Now this happened just after Karen had her trouble with the "First Class Mail" return of her defective item so I was adequately informed just a normal envelope would do. But nothing again till 28th Sept when I sent another email to CS. I also asked about the $2 refund they said I'll get for the shipping of the defective die. Reply next day from Julie she was planning on sorting out faulty goods that day and that if my die had arrived by then, then she'll send a new one that day. Replacement arrived 11 Oct.

That took 6 weeks to get sorted. Given I had photo evidence, can't they have sent a new one straight off when I sent the initial email? Why take over 4 weeks to even think about doing something about it?

What happened to my $2 refund you ask? I never got it. I just checked now, and I have no record of any refund being received from PTI. Will I call PTI CS for it now? I don't think so. They can keep my measly $2. It's not worth my time and energy to send them another dozen emails to have it sorted. I'll have better luck finding a $2 coin on the ground somewhere.

And one other thing. I totally don't understand how the company in the current state, can continue with monthly releases, Make It Mondays and Blog Hops as if everything is going perfectly well. Yes I admit to participating in Blog Hops and MIMs, but really, it gives me more pageviews and comments than anything else I've done so far. Once I get home and try other challenges, things will change.

So now what? Why the change in my tone all of a sudden? Wasn't I the happy forum member who didn't give a damn about the drama that was going on? No, not really. I just stayed out of the complaints box for my own sake. I had enough of it just flicking through the thread headings. Mid-last year, I still had a lot of hope in PTI and kept quite positive. I thought there was room to turn back and make things right. But all that has happened since is that they've dug a deeper hole than they started with. Yes, some things are starting to get fixed. But the damage has been done. I don't think PTI will ever recover completely. It takes quite a lot (A LOT) to get me to write something like this. In fact, it is near impossible. I've been disappointed far too many times. Mostly indirectly, but imagine what it'd be like those who never got their anniversary sets, never got the refund, got banned from forum and never had their questions answered promptly.

Will I still use their products? Oh heck yes. When you started stamping because of PTI, you don't have a lot of else to convert to. Will I buy from them still? To be honest, I have my credits to use, and there are still some sets that I'm keen to get. But I have to say I have become more and more put off. I may put in one more order with my credits and then who knows what will happen. I'll reassess the situation later, but I doubt I'll be putting in another big order like I have in the past. I have yet to find another clear stamp company that has the styles I want. I've looked at just about all the well-known ones and they don't draw me much at all. But anyway, I've got enough to play with for the time being.

This has turned into a bit of a novel. But just to reiterate that it's just my 2 cents and my experiences over the past year. It's not an award winning novel, but I believe that people need to hear various opinions and make up their own minds. I post this out of frustration of being disappointed from time and time again by a company that I once loved so much.

Nichole Heady always puts "our valued customers" at the heading of her notices. I really think it is time they get their act together if they truly value us. It should have happened long ago, but now is better than never. Learn from mistakes, make amends and then move forward. It's not going to work doing it back to front.

Thought I'd add some links to other blogs who share their views.

PTI Blog Hop March 2012

Hi everyone. Hopefully this scheduled thing posts this at the right time for the PTI Blog Hop. This month, it's all about Spring and colours aqua and yellow!

Here's the inspiration photo...

Those of you who came earlier to my blog will know that I was in the process of making baby cards to thank two newly made parents for letting me be present at their special moment when their little one was born ;) So here's the other card I made.

Unfortunately the glitter didn't come out all that well, but it's sitting there in the while gaps between the Aqua Mist and Lemon Tart panels!

I got another use out of the Bundle of Love set. Sentiment is from Night Night Moon set. I really feel that there is something still missing in this card as a final touch but I gave up on it after staring at it all day.

Hope you enjoyed my take on the coloured panels and glitter in between :)

I'm going to try and make another few cards to share over time while I'm away now!

Thanks for coming!

Make It Monday #58 Part 2 - Hanging Out

Hello again!

My attempts to make several cards while home has fallen through the roof and I've only managed to make another one for Make It Monday and one for the Blog Hop tomorrow!

Here's something with my new Hanging Out set. I've used the graduated background with Copics, to add a bit of background colours to this little scene here.

I've also distressed the edges of the mat with my scissors a wee bit.

A close up view here. Sorry, I used scrap patterned paper and I'm a bit too lazy to search their names and brands.

Sorry it's a very quick post. I've got some packing to do before heading back down south! See you back with the Blog Hop!

Make It Monday #58 & Bundle of Love

Hello everyone! I am back!

I had one busy busy week and have just finished my run. I've been super stressed with my presentation (which I had to present to a single audience... <_<) and my oral assessment today. Now that it is out of the way, and I'm back home for another few days, I have time to get crafty again!

I spent Monday night till early hours of morning in birthing suite helping delivering babies. I managed to be present for 2 so now I have the job of making some baby girl cards to thank the new parents for letting me be at their special moment :)

And while I was at it, I thought I may as well tackle the new Make It Monday. Really, because I am flat out on ideas on how to use my newly purchased baby sets (someone decided to sell them on our local auction site for cheaper than what it's worth and brand new too!!!). I am also happy to announce that I now have Houndstooth too hahaha.

So here's my tackle on the graduated background using Copic Sketch Markers, and my new Bundle of Love set. I really don't have any fresh ideas to use this set -_-;;

But the torn edges go rather nicely don't you think?

Anyway that's one card down, one more to go.

Thanks for poppin' by! See you back soon with more cards :)

STAMP: [PTI] Bundle of Love
INK: [PTI] Dark Chocolate Berry Sorbet; [Memento] Tuxedo Black

Fly Away Birthday Card

Hi everyone! Time for another card!

I'm still in the beautiful Cromwell with Rob & Joan. They have a little wee grandson - he's so cute - who's turning 1 soon, and I thought I'd make them a birthday card for them to use. Always nicer than something from the supermarket which are expensive and not worth $4-5.

Anyway, I grabbed out my Fly Away set, since it was the only baby boy sorta set I had. I had lots of fun with this card. I got to use my Block Alphabet dies as well as the In the Meadow snowdrift dies. They are very versatile, and not just for Christmas cards! ;)

Sorry I can't do anything about the crappy photo quality. I'm going to try and see if I can borrow Rob & Joan's camera later...

I just glued on the button twine btw. I smeared it with my Zig 2 way glue and it's still holding the twine so I suppose it's alright. That idea of using twine, I think I borrowed from Nichole Heady's Fly Away card from waaaay back.

But anyway, hope you like the card. It was really lots of fun to make :) Thanks for coming by!

PS - I sent in my card for PaperCrafts magazine. Blimey. Posting a card + 3 forms in a tiny box cost me $11.50!!! Thank goodness they are going to pay me more than what cost me lol

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
STAMP: [PTI] Fly Away, Big Birthday Wishes
INK: [SU!] Old Olive, Wild Wasabi; [Memento] Tuxedo Black
PAPER: [PTI] Simply Chartreuse, Vintage Cream

Make It Monday #52 - Part 2

Hi everyone! Back again as promised! Here's the second card I made last night for this week's MIM :)
It's rather weird having an umbrella that's folded and getting blown away. Steph tells me it might be suitable for Melbourne. I think I might send this to a friend in Wellington, our capital city. It's famous for being windy (my friend says it's a city where traffic lights sway from side to side in the wind haha).

Sorry about the shocking quality yet again. It's Aqua Mist base with my last little piece of white cardstock T_T

Anyway, that's it for now. Thanks for coming by!

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
STAMP: [PTI] Scattered Showers, Tiny Tags I, Tiny Tags II
INK: [PTI] Aqua Mist; [SU!] Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze

Make It Monday #52

Hello everyone.

I couldn't participate in the PTI 5th Anniversary Day 2 challenge due to lack of a printer, so I went and played along with the new Make It Monday!
It was quite a challenge as it was difficult to find a die cut that would work with the technique of stamping both sides. But then, I thought, why bother stamping with matching stamp set? So I went and did something slightly different.
I did make 2 cards today but I will only share 1 for now, because bed is calling out my name!!!

Anyway, I made a die cut of Turning a New Leaf and then folded half of it and then stamped on either side with Text Style I background set.
Ok, past midnight and I should be in bed! Thanks for coming by! I'll share the otherone tomorrow when I get back from GirlGuiding! :)
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
STAMP: [PTI] Thank You, Background Basics: Text Style
INK: [PTI] Fresh Snow; [SU!] Early Espresso

PTI 5th Anniversary Day 1

Hi everyone. A super duper quick post so I can submit my card for Papertrey Ink's 5th Anniversary Day 1 challenge.

It's a bit difficult stamping at the mo as I'm away from home. Everything's in a box jumbled up, I have a tiny desk and the chair is all prickly and uncomfortable.

Anyway, I made a very quick card, which hardly looks anything like Erin's inspirational project with hair ties. Really, the only thing it has in common is the frame.

And apologies. I didn't bring my camera with me to Cromwell, so you will have to put up with shocking shots off my cheap phone. It's really really shocking quality. I'm going to make up with some nice photos from my trip today as well (see next post).

Anyway, card first before time runs out!

It's Aqua Mist base with Ocean Tides mat frame. You have to use your imagination a little bit with this shocking camera. I also misted it a bit over the clouds for a bit of shimmer.

Thanks for coming. I'll do another post of Lake Wanaka summer goodness shortly!

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
STAMP: [PTI] Fly Away
INK: [SU!] Early Espresso, Not Quite Navy
PAPER: [PTI] Aqua Mist, Stamper's Select White, Ocean Tides

Make It Monday #47 Part 2 - Glitterama

Hello everyone! I've got one more card to share with you today. I thought I'd go along with this week's Papertrey Ink Make It Monday #47, because of the diversity you can play along with!
This time, I'm going back to MIM #3 where you create glitter strips using double sided tape. It's a neat trick for making clean glitter strips, and double sided tape holds glitter pretty well. Unfortunately, I used the Prisma Glitter and ended up with glittered pair of black pants afterwards yet again lol

Sorry about the bad photo quality. It doesn't do justice for all the glitter that went into the card!!!

I thought I'd try using the glittered strips as the background, rather than just have a single strip for a bit of decoration. I finally brought out the Block Alphabet dies and decorated the rest. It took a while to get all the foam tapes cut up and stick the alphabets individually. It's a simple card, but the glitter certainly works.

Another thing you could do is to use different sized double sided tapes to add a bit more variation into the stripes :)

That's it for today. Thanks for coming by again!

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
PAPER: [PTI] Stamper's Select White, Aqua Mist, Hawaiian Shores
OTHER: [PTI] Block Alphabet die collection; [Palette] Prisma Glitter; [Sellotape] double-sided tape; foam tape

Make It Monday #47

Hello everyone. I'm joining in on the latest Papertrey Ink Make It Monday. This one's just looking back at 2011 and all the different MIMs we've done and going back to what we may have missed or doing over again!
So today I made a card using Edgers die pockets from Make It Monday #23: Pockets with Edger Dies. I only started my blog a few months ago as well as participating in challenges online recently, so I missed a lot of previous MIMs. So this is a good chance for me to see what I've missed out or couldn't do at the time due to not having enough things to improvise with!

Apologies for poor photo qualities. I will be getting a DSLR once I've paid my brother off for my recent car purchase!

I made pockets with Berry Sorbet cardstock using Edgers #3 die. I chucked in a Spiral Notebook Page die cut with sentiment from Modern Wood Mats. It's a fairly simple card all in all.

I'm horrendously tired today and I'm supposed to be in ED (aka A&E) all day tomorrow (all day and all night more like), so I may hit the haystack early tonight. Thank you for coming by! :)

Make It Monday #45

Hello again everyone!

Just a quick post. I have to make this quick so that I can get back to work! I have lots to get done in the next 24 hours for school so I really shouldn't have even attempted this week's MIM, but I just bought Copics a couple of weeks ago (finally!) and had to put it to use ;)
So, this week's MIM is basically heat embossing in white and then colouring with a Copic marker over the embossed image. Simple huh?

So here's my card for this week's challenge. I admit it's not my usual style, but I'm quite happy with it.

I did notice that the tips of my Copic markers went white with the white emboss. Not sure if this will have long term effects on my marker, but it seems to be ok for now.

Anyway, off to do my project. Thanks for coming :)

PTI November Blog Hop!

I'm joining in on the Papertrey Ink November Blog Hop! This is the first time I'm participating, and excited! :)

So this is the photo that we were given for inspiration...

I just didn't know what to do with it at first, but I wanted to use the hand rail along the stairwells and make lots of pressies underneath. So I cut out little rectangles to make the bars (after sketching it), then went over with the Vintage Touch Tea Dye Duo for a bit more vintage look.

A bit of In the Meadow tree with a stump with Dark Chocolate cardstock in the background added a nice touch. I used various stamp sets from PTI to make the presents.

I hope you liked my take on the challenge! :) Thanks for coming around!

Enjoy the rest of the blog hop!
