The "Dawn McVey Colour Combo"

When I look at Raspberry Fizz, my first thought is, "Dawn McVey". I thought it was about time I tackled the very well recognised Dawn's colour combos (to be honest - because I got stuck and needed something a little different). She's such an inspiration. I could go on a bit more, but I think I'll stop here, because I don't think you need me to reinforce this well-known fact ;)

So here are a couple of cards I made for a custom order (did I ever mention I managed to sell a couple of cards? Totally excited). Anyway, this lovely lady asked me for another card for her niece so I was throwing around some ideas, and had that "light bulb moment".

I must have known she'd buy two in fact (she had a second thought and bought one more for her daughter too), because I just made two in different colours. And it was time to go back to my famous(?) windows with PTI stamp packaging :)

I kept it fairly simple. I was specifically asked to have numbers on the cards so By the Numbers dies featuring yet again. I added a bit of glamour with rhinestones over the Fancy Flourishes (and don't they just bring out those flourishes?) and a bit of glitter under the window (in that rim around the circle).

Some close-up views for each card.

And here's another card with more of Dawn's colour combos - Raspberry Fizz, Dark Chocolate and Aqua Mist.

I felt a little bad yesterday not having used my Cupcakes Collection for a while. So I got it out. But I still can't seem to get that nice combinations to make the cupcakes look really awesome :( Maybe this will be my new excuse for more inks... haha (mind you, I'm in desperate need for a chocolate ink. My SU! Early Espresso is far too dark...)

Btw, there's a bit of Tin Types impression over the Raspberry Fizz card base, but I doubt the photo does justice to show it.

Anyway, I'm going to make a dash now! My PTI October release has touched down on my doorstep this morning and I want to play with my Tremendous Treats and In the Meadow sets, not to mention the Front & Centre die! Oh this is going to be good!
Thanks for coming! :)

Inspired By & More CAS-Friday

This post is a bit about cards inspired by others. And one of the cards is another entry for the CAS-Friday Challenge #27. Yeah, I'm really playing along with these challenges this week! :)

I'm totally in the mood for acorns today! So Autumn Acorns set it is!

Here's my first card. This one was inspired by a card Nichole Heady made for the August 2011 release - click here to see Nichole's card.

I wanted to make it a bit fun and colourful. And polka dot clear heat embossing over Hawaiian Shores cardbase seemed like a good idea. I stuck out the white cardstock with acorns to the side for a bit of kick (the truth is... the Hawaiian Shores cardstock was a left over bit and was a bit smaller haha). I finished off with some rhinestones on the acorns.

The second card was inspired by this card I came across on Pinterest. I love Pinterest. I now not only save my favourite cards onto my harddrive but can also pin them to share them with the world how awesome they are ;)

So anyway, my card doesn't look much like the project that inspired me. But it certainly made me grab out the Autumn Acorns set. It's a bit of a shame that I don't have much use for half the sentiments in that set.

So there you are. Two cards of completely different styles, but both using Autumn Acorns set. I love that set. It's just coming to end of Spring in New Zealand and acorns are not due until Feb/March next year, but I just love how cute acorns are!

Thanks for the visit! :D
