Something Different for a Change

Hello everyone! I've been rather busy since school started back up and haven't had a lot of time to get stampin'. I thought I'd show you something quite different from stamping and cardmaking today.

Before I found PTI, I was a big crocheter. I still am, but I'd rather be stamping, because it takes so much less time. I'm not great at making scarves and what not, but I do have a knack at making soft toys (called "amigurumi"). In fact, this hobby led me to a crocheted flower tutorial on Nichole's blog, which in turn led me to PTI and got me stampin'!

I started crocheting 2 years ago. I saw this adorable bunny pattern on Etsy and just had to buy it - yes, before I even knew how to hold a crochet hook (I still can't hold it properly for that matter). So the pattern pdf came flying to my inbox and I just taught myself how to crochet a bunny using Youtube and a crochet basic instructions book. It's incredibly simple. Once you know how to make a magic ring, single crochet, increase/decrease stitches and know how to change yarn colour, you're able to make most of the basic dolls! No fancy pattern here and there. Just work away in circles ;)

So here are some stuffed toys I made over the past couple of years.

This is my very first bunny. Crochet's not quite tight enough, I've lost count of my row countless times and didn't stuff it enough. But hey, it's a bunny. What can go wrong?

Here's the finished first bunny with some friends. I have made so many of these bunnies now, I've become very good at making them haha.

This one's with a graduation bear I made for a friend. That grad cap was probably the trickiest part! Doesn't look it, does it?

Next is a teddy bear. Pattern-wise, it's really not that different from the bunny.

A lion this time. The mane can come off, and it was so hard to figure out how to make it. I don't think I'll try making another lion in the near future.

Something more fun and quick! Donut cellphone charms! I bought lots of cellphone charms on Etsy to hook onto these and others (some shown in this post). Unfortunately they're a bit cheap and breaks off easily. I've heard from my friends that they broke off after a while :(

A donut lover! A mini elephant :)

It has a mini purple flower on its back too!

This one's one of my favourite patterns. Love this bear. Takes longer to make than other ones, but the colour combination is just a charm. And the long arms and legs really look cute <3

Mr. Snowman! This one's perfect for the coming Christmas. Except that it's the middle of Summer in New Zealand.

Another cellphone charm. This is the cutest wee poodle EVER! I gave it to my cousin, but I think it also fell off the charm... Just so you know, my hands look really big in the photo, but actually, most ten year olds have hands bigger than mine D:

The next bear, is the first ever wee thing I made without a pattern. It's entirely original. It's not that hard really. It's just a matter of trying to get the ratios alright.

And last but not least!!! I saved one of my favs till the end. Mr & Mrs Bear were a gift for my parents' anniversary last year. I had a hard time crocheting with fluffy yarn. I swear you can't see the holes to put the needles into. I had to go with my guesstimation where each stitch should go to. lol.

Hope you enjoyed this post! Something a little refreshing once in a while's not too bad huh?

If anyone wants to know where I got the particular patterns from, you're welcome to ask me (here or on the PTI forums!).

PTI November Blog Hop!

I'm joining in on the Papertrey Ink November Blog Hop! This is the first time I'm participating, and excited! :)

So this is the photo that we were given for inspiration...

I just didn't know what to do with it at first, but I wanted to use the hand rail along the stairwells and make lots of pressies underneath. So I cut out little rectangles to make the bars (after sketching it), then went over with the Vintage Touch Tea Dye Duo for a bit more vintage look.

A bit of In the Meadow tree with a stump with Dark Chocolate cardstock in the background added a nice touch. I used various stamp sets from PTI to make the presents.

I hope you liked my take on the challenge! :) Thanks for coming around!

Enjoy the rest of the blog hop!

Make It Monday #42

Hi everyone! I'm joining in this week's PTI Make It Monday challenge!
This week, we are making backgrounds using our sentiment stamps. You can give a 'layered' look by stamping on scratch paper different number of times before onto your cardstock - this makes your images lighter in shade and when you overlap each other, they start to look more layered.

So here's the card I made. I did use my scratch paper to lighten the ink to different 'dilutions' you might call it, but I purposefully didn't overlap each sentiment. I've always loved this sort of sentiment backgrounds where sentiments/words/letters face all directions randomly ;)

Big Birthday Wishes is a great set for making this sort of backgrounds, because it contains fonts of varying sizes. I only used the SU! Old Olive ink pad to make this background. I really enjoyed fitting bits together, and love the way it turned out. I will have to use it more often :)

I topped off with a ribbon and the By the Numbers die cut.

Thanks for coming around :)

CAS-Friday 29 & Damask Designs

Hi everyone! Another quick post. I've been trying to do some more challenges now, but class has started and I'm just trying to sort out my time a bit. I did manage to make a card for this week's CAS-Friday challenge I've been meaning to make.

This week's challenge was a sketch challenge. I have to admit this is the first time I'm making a card based on a sketch. And you'll see one of my fav techniques of blending ink into the YOF: Carnations set. I had to stamp the outlines over twice because the blending smudged it. It was a little tricky to line them up given it's quite a detailed image.

The next card is just an extra. I was experimenting with my new Damask Designs set.

I'm off to the gym now. Thanks for coming around :)

Get Well Card + CASE

It's time I blogged the unblogged cards ;) I've lost track of them, so I'll have to flick through and figure out.

I've also started my classes again today, so I'll have less time to get crafty now. Starting in Paediatrics with 2 weeks in paeds oncology and 2 weeks in paeds surgery. Not exactly the combo I was hoping for (I was hoping for some neonatology somewhere but I missed out on the spot).

Anyway, back to cards. This card, I just sent out to my friend last week. I found out that she'd been in hospital and had to get some surgery done. And she'd always wanted one of my cards, so I went and made her one. She's going to get lots of cards from me in the next few weeks. This, birthday and Christmas cards ;)

Her favourite colour is blue, so I had to grab out my blues. It's really royal blue she likes, but I really don't do well making cards with deeper blue shades. But anyway, a bit more on YOF: Carnations embossed in white with some blending goodness ;) And I gave my Mat Stack #3 some love it needed.

I used some cotton buds/swabs to add a bit more shading effect/depth on the carnation image over the Mat Stack die cut. It works rather well. This is how I do colouring without Copics (FYI - Steph is out buying me Copics this very moment!!! So excited!!!).

The next card is a CASE of Dawn McVey's card. I found some nice saddle stitch ribbons at the mall the other day! It was from a horrendously expensive Swedish (or somewhere thereabouts) stationery shop called kikki.k. A roll was $5 for 3m. Bit of an overkill, but can't find anything nicer around here locally, so I went and got the blue & red ones.
This card utilises the little wee stamp in the Vintage Labels set really well. I would never have thought to use it as a background. I initially thought it was from Damask Designs set.

Anyway, I'm needing some break. My timetable looks as confusing as ever and I just came back from 3hrs of GirlGuiding in the rain. I came home with my shoes and socks all wet and was desperate to have a hot shower - only to find my brother jumping in for his as I dropped my gear down. I had to wait agonising 15 minutes till he was done lol

Thanks again for popping around! :)

Graduation Cards

Hi everyone! I'm back again! Graduation is probably far from your minds given semesters start in September in America, but for med students here, graduation is early December! Some of my friends have done their 6 years of study (good on them!) and are graduating very soon! In fact, they are starting their work as doctors next week! And to think that I'm going to be the the same this time next year!!! Eeeek!

I bought For the Graduate set from Cecelia not so long ago and it just arrived a couple of days ago (and I'm also happy to tell you that the ATG gun from Sherrie's come too!!!). So I felt obliged to make some graduation cards :)

I actually made three. But I forgot about blogging and had already sealed one into an envelope to be never seen again lol So you will just have to put up with two. I think I should make one for my cousin too. She just finished high school (and she topped the school and was announced Dux! As if being a Head Girl wasn't enough for her!).

Anyway, time to show the cards! A Little Argyle set goes SO well with this set! I was really surprised! This card is Summer Sunrise on Enchanted Evening. Why the weird colour combo (yellow & blue)? Well, it's the colour for my university (Otago) ;)

The next card is a CASE of Maile Belles' lovely card. I changed the colours around slightly and added in the sentiment at the bottom. I really like this CAS look <3
This card also reminded me how much I hate my StazOn black ink pad. It stinks! I've remembered to put the black ink pad into my cart for my next order ;)

Anyway, I've got to rush now. Need to go pop on by the hospital and pick up my intro pack and ID card for Monday. I can't believe my holiday is pretty much over :'( I'll have to make more cards though. That ATG is going to take a wee while to get used to. And people were right when they said it was a beast of a thing! It's MASSIVE! lol

Thanks for popping by!

Meet Mr. Tremendous Penguin

Hi everyone! Thought I'd share cute wee card before going off. I'm beginning to lose track of what's been blogged and what's not. LOL.

So, say hello to Mr. Tremendous Penguin. He's an adorable wee one from the Tremendous Treats: Christmas set. We have penguins in New Zealand but unfortunately we don't often have white Christmas (it's summer here FYI). We have historically had the wacky odd one once every few decades though.

However, tradition says, snowy Christmas cards are still acceptable. Haha.

I really haven't got much to say about this card, other than the fact that it's easy to make! I coloured in the penguin with colouring pencil. I'm going to try and get some Copic Sketch Markers soon. It seems that they are reasonably priced in Singapore and I'm going to get Steph to help me out a bit :)

Anyway, thank you for coming by!

MIM & CAS-Friday Challenges Part 2

Ok, a dual post it is to cover both the Make-It-Monday & CAS-Friday Challenge!

First, the second CAS-Friday challenge card. I went a little polka dot-happy with this card. I just didn't know what to do after I cut out the Mat Stack #4 die cut. Somehow it worked out ok. I do love my polka dots ;)

And the second Make-It-Monday card. It's actually the first one. I just didn't post it first :P
This one was more experimental than anything - again using windows and PTI stamp set packaging box plastic. Just remember that Prisma Glitter will stick to the plastic with all that static!!! I thought I'd be clever and use my heat tool to blow the excess off. Well, think again. It only warped the plastic. Now I have a wrinkly card. And I managed to miscalculate and had double sided tape stick out onto card base, so had to chop off at the sides (hence there is no blue bits to the left or right) :'(

A close-up view of the windows. I used the In the Meadow set. I'm quite happy how the glitter and stamped glue went together. I'm just not happy with the warped card! lol.

Did I mention I got my Take Three die at last? I forgot to order last time and had to buy off Denise. Now I really want those sets too.

Anyhow, enough rambling from me! Thanks for popping around again! :)

Make It Monday #41: Christmas Ornament Card

Hello! I'm in the mood for playing along for challenges! So here's something for Papertrey Ink's latest Make It Monday!

This week, we have to bring out Essential Glue Pad out and stamp and image with it, and finish off with something fine and... in my case, SPARKLY!

The only thing fine I have is Prisma Glitter, so I had little choice, but I did have this great idea to make a Christmas ornament/bauble. And those of you who know me, know I love to make windows too. So I grabbed out the plastic container PTI stamps come wrapped up in ;)

I used Fancy Flourishes to decorate the 'ornament'. I'm sure I've seen an ornament that looked just like this in real life. I just wish I had gold glitter. It would have been perfect.

This is what the card overlay was looking like halfway through. I stamped with the glue pad on the plastic and applied glitter. Now, Prisma glitter sticks to the plastic due to static, so once the glue had dried off, I had to go and run my finger across to try and remove as much excess off as possible. I also double layered up the glitter so that I didn't have glitter falling behind either.

Hope you liked the card! I've got another MIM card and CAS-Friday cards to share later to check back again! Thank you for coming :)

CAS-Friday #28 Challenge Part 2

Back for more for CAS-Friday #28 challenge!

I'm really not a tag person. I could never seem to get it right. I tried this time though. But I think I may have over done it slightly.

Anyway, I was dying to overlay the scalloped edges so here's a card. I actually made another card for a friend's birthday but I can't show it to you until she gets the card (so it won't be for a while!).

I love the gradient look with the colours layered on. And like I said before, I have no tag dies (yet) so this time I did a makeshift one using the Half & Half die. I think it worked rather well. I was sitting here cursing myself for not having a Berry Sorbet/Melon Berry ink pad though! I would have loved it if I could have stamped the Fancy Flourishes in those colours! lol

Anyway, I'm going to go join the remainder of the PTI release party!

Thank you for coming by!

CAS-Friday Challenge #28 with Front & Centre

Hi everyone! I've been a bit quiet the last few days so time for some update! I've been out catching up with my friends. Yesterday I had one over at my place and introduced stamping to her ;) We had fun, but I managed to take a good chunk/fillet of my left index finger with my craft knife :'( It's still oozing blood after 15hrs of pressure bandaids (I wasn't going to apply manual pressure for 15hrs lol). It's slowed down (bleeding wise), but I'll have another check later. But it really sucks.

Anyway, I thought I'd make a bag using my Front & Centre die at last. I've only made a card out of it and it was about time I used it for what it was originally intended for! I gave it to my friend to take her Christmas chocolate and the card she made inside.

Btw, I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone by adding in a tag to play along with this week's CAS-Friday Challenge!

I was stuck for a while as I don't deal with big spaces so well. I tend to work in smaller areas (i.e. cards) - hence I never started scrapbooking... yet. I will soon ;)

I stamped over the Berry Sorbet base with Sheet Music background in Versamark. Added some snowflakes and Tremendous treats.

I don't have any tag dies, so I just had to make with whatever I had. I used the Edgers #3 die to round the end of the tag. Here's a close up view. I heat embosssed the sentiment just to show my friend what it is lol

It's a little hard trying to type without your index finger so I'll stop it here. but thank you for coming again! :)

Make It Monday #40 Part 3

Hi! Back for more Make It Monday fun! I know I posted a few hours ago, but I just made a card and I just had to share it... now lol

I got the idea of using the Damask Snowflakes dies from Baseret's post here. It's very clever and I just had to use it to make some more Christmas cards! And why not chuck in some patterned paper in the back to play with MIM again? Hehe. I love my break lol

I'm really feeling the blues at the moment. I have phased off the Melon Berry and moved onto Aqua Mist & Hawaiian Shores. Haha.

I'm really thrilled how this card turned out! And I decided to go back to my less-pretty glitter for less mess (lol). And tremendous treats is just a charm. I stamped the bird on a white cardstock, coloured it in and cut around it. And on it goes on top of the patterned paper!

A close up view on the glitter & birdie :)

Now, I'm really done blogging for the day (haha). Will get ready to go see my friend ;)

And before I forget, can I please do a big shoutout that I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all the lovely comments I always get. I have a hard time flicking through to everyone's blogs but I appreciate them :) Thank you <3

Make It Monday #40 Part 2

Hello everyone! I've got more Christmas cards to share with you all today! I can now stamp happy in peace now that I don't have to worry about that exam *phew* (in case anyone missed, I passed! YAY! - Facebook page was going absolutely crazy yesterday with all my classmates posting they passed too ahahaha). Thank you all for putting up with a miserable(?) youngster like me complaining about exams for the last few weeks when you are all out there doing much more amazing things like raising up kids, running a household and working etc etc!

Now I'm beginning to lose track of what I've posted and what I haven't. I think I still have a couple of cards from before exams that needs posting somewhere. Oh, I'll figure them out later!

Here's my second entry for this week's Make It Monday!

This time, I reverse appliqued with the Damask Snowflakes die. And OMG those Prisma Glitter are just a disaster waiting to happen without a glitter tray! This time I turned my shorts glittery!

And another couple of cards I made the other day. I sort of bought the Sheet Music background set on impulse, but I'm so glad I got it now. I think it's just perfect for Christmas cards! And distressed edges are a new thing for me and I love it, other than it makes me sneeze!

Something a little more cheery ;) Really like how great it looks in Spring Moss!

All done for today. I'm off to catch up with my friend later tonight. She has warned me that she'll be buying 20 of my cards (which means I should get busy cardmaking!) D:

Thanks for coming by!

Make It Monday #40

Hi everyone! A quick post before I dash off to the gym :)

Thought I'd play along with this week's Make It Monday challenge. This is a card I made last night. And I finally grabbed out my patterned paper lot. I hardly use them these days since I have stamps to play with! But I do have a fair bit so I should probably start using them...

I kept it simple and I am just loving Melon Berry this week. My hand just keeps reaching out for that pack!

Sorry, we have rainy/cloudy days forecasted all week so I haven't got very good daylight for great photos :(

I'm loving the October release goodies from PTI. Can you tell? I'll make a few more cards later and make another few for MIM, but a quick coffee and I'm off to the gym. And today's my Spring cleaning day. My wardrobe could really use one haha

Thanks for comin' by!

PS - the patterned paper I used for the reverse applique is from My Mind's Eye, and it's my fav patterened paper <3

Christmas Card Galore

I've got LOTS of Christmas cards for you all today! I like to make lots of different designs (because it's always easier to reproduce later than come up with a fresh new design). And I've got my break now, and my October release goodies have arrived yesterday. So I had a bit of a busy day yesterday having fun!:D

I'll try and keep words to a minimum because I know I'm wordy! lol

This card is a really fun card. It's funny that I went straight for the Front & Centre die without thinking after I had organised my new goodies, and somehow decided to make a card out of it. And this is what happened. I thought about adding sentiment to that oval cut, then (somehow) ended up making a tag to fit into it.

Here's what the tag looks like pulled out. I had to put two layers of foam tape around the Front & Centre die cut to make this really work.

Here's another card with some more Melon Berry/Berry Sorbet goodness! Talk about unconventional colours for Christmas! But I love it! And I finally got my hands on those Prisma Glitter, and boy oh boy were they pretty. Not to mention a mess on my table. By the time I finished the card, I had glittery black pants! ;)

A simple card with In the Meadow set. I'm really loving this set. I have no idea what to do with the snowman, but I'll figure it out later. In this card, I used a satin cardstock to add a bit of shimmer to the snow.

One more, and somewhat masculine, if there is such thing as masculine Christmas cards. Keep it simple is the way to go.

This next card is a complete CASE of Maile Belles' card. I loved it so much I had to reproduce it. And this is why I desperately need some chocolate ink!!! Remember how I said Dawn McVey was such an inspiration? Well, Maile's one of my favs too. I love PTI Design Team <3

And last but not least! I regret using white cardstock for the Santa... but oh well. That Santa is uber cute and I'm so glad they came in mega sizes ;) I distressed the edges of the card with my scissors. I was surprised how easy it was. I had never tried it before and something just told me to do it yesterday. Love the little vintage look it adds. Now if I only had some Copics to go with these cute Tremendous Treats sets...

Anyway, that's it for the day! I've just come back from a shopping spree with mum and I am tired. And I could use some dinner too! ;) See you all later, and thanks for poppin' by!
